ANNOUNCER: Tim Scott is a Conservative Republican running for Congress. Here’s Tim Scott talking about healthcare.

TIM SCOTT: The current track we’re on in Washington is moving us closer to socialism. Think about it – Nationalized health care…really? It’s not about healthcare. It’s about controlling another one-sixth of our economy. Washington spends way too much money. When you think about it, this healthcare debacle…$1.2 trillion dollars…$570 billion dollars of new taxes…$52 billion dollars of new taxes for small business owners like me. We can’t afford it. Because I realize that what we have in government today is not a problem with money, we have a problem with priorities. We’ve gotten enough revenues $3.8 trillion dollars…give me a break! We don’t need more money, we need better priorities. What we need is courage. We need a backbone and some common sense. I’m Tim Scott and I approve this message.

ANNOUNCER: Tim Scott. Conservative Republican for Congress. Paid for by Tim Scott for Congress.

ANNOUNCER: Tim Scott is a Conservative Republican running for Congress. Here’s Tim Scott talking about taxes and jobs.

TIM SCOTT: Free enterprise is the power that makes America great. The government does not create jobs…private sector, entrepreneurs create jobs. When you think about it, an employer can pay higher taxes or hire more people – we can’t do both. For more than a dozen years, I served on County Council without raising taxes. Over and over again our administrator or someone said, “Let’s raise taxes. We really need to do…” fill in the blank. No. We need to live within our budget. We need to tighten our belts and keep the money where the people are, not where the government is. Make a promise, keep a promise. The American people demand it and they deserve it. I’m Tim Scott and I approve this message.

ANNOUNCER: Tim Scott. Conservative Republican for Congress. Paid for by Tim Scott for Congress.

S.C. Rep. Tim Scott – who has been endorsed for the First Congressional District seat by the Club for Growth, dozens of South Carolina businesses and most recently S.C. Speaker Bobby Harrell –issued the following statement commemorating Tax Day 2010:

“What we are seeing today in America is truly inspiring. Across our country, people are uniting in defense of their liberties as well as their wallets and pocketbooks. They’re saying ‘enough’s enough,’ and they’re demanding real change – not the sort of smoke and mirrors change we’ve seen from President Barack Obama and his Congressional allies.

Republican voters are also demanding that they be represented by real fiscal conservatives – leaders who have a proven record of ‘walking the walk’ when it comes to watching out for their bottom line.

In this crowded race, there is but one clear choice on that front.

Last year in Columbia, I was one of just fifteen out of 170 lawmakers to earn an ‘A’ grade from the S.C. Club for Growth. This year, I’m continuing to protect your bottom line while leading the fight to block President Obama’s unconstitutional socialized medicine plan. In a political environment dominated by rhetoric and reactionary policy, I’ve let my actions do the talking.

We are part of an American revival, celebrating a rebirth of the limited government principles that our country was founded on – and to which our country must return if future generations are to prosper.

To everyone who is standing up and making your voice heard, I thank you. I also invite you to join my campaign to bring your voice to Washington.

We can – and will – take this country back by electing proven fiscal conservatives who will put your interests first for the first time in a long time.”

Video link at the end of this post.  Tim Scott’s legislation to nullify the government-run healthcare legislation received a favorable 3-2 vote this morning in the judicial law subcommittee meeting at the State House.

In November 2009, Scott pre-filed the legislation would protect states’ rights and individual freedoms from a government-run healthcare program. “The federal government’s over reach is layered with problems, the biggest of which is that it is unconstitutional”, Scott said to the committee, which garnered applause from those in attendance.
