Tim Scott Statement on NAACP Resolution Condemning Tea Party as “Racist”

Tim Scott, Republican candidate for Congress in South Carolina’s First Congressional District, issued the following statement today:

“I understand that the NAACP, at its annual conference in Kansas City, will vote today on a resolution condemning the Tea Party movement as “racist”. I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference.”

“As I campaign in South Carolina, I participate in numerous events sponsored by the Tea Party, 9/12, Patriot, and other like-minded groups, and I have had the opportunity to get to know many of the men and women who make up these energetic grassroots organizations. Americans need to know that the Tea Party is a color-blind movement that has principled differences with many of the leaders in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans. Their aim is to support the strongest candidates – regardless of color or background – who will fight to return our country to its Constitutional roots of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets.”

I agree Scott! This is a new America. Even our highest offices are subject to the same laws of equality as our educational institutions and, our businesses.
E.E.O. Equal Employment Opportunity under the law. The “know nothings” are abiding by the laws of our country. A cultural diverse, modern, law abiding, educational group caring about the well being of The United States of America.

I see your political star rising as you lead us to return our country to greatness to “WE THE PEOPLE” with liberty and justice for all. May God Bless you and continue to guide your footsteps.

Here here! Thank you for standing up to groups like this! Why do so many of these organizations, especially those with extreme liberal-leanings, seem to think the Tea Party, 9/12 and others are a bunch of far-right-wing conservative loonies that don’t understand politics or what’s really been going on in our government for far too long. They are not! I’m independent with conservative leanings, and am not a member of any of these groups, but I agree with quite a bit of what these groups are saying. Change is a coming! And I think the American people will be speaking loud and clear come this November!

  5. garnet d. aitchison says:

Mr. Scott – thanks for the above letter – it is so ridiculous to believe that the Tea Party movement is anything more than it is – a gathering of folks who are disgusted with the way things are run in Washington – Perhpas the NAACP needs to pass a resolution regarding the disgusting remarks by some of the Black Panthers – a group which is, indeed, racist.

Good luck with your election. We in South Carolina are proud of your accomplishments and if I voted in your district, you would have my vote! I did pass your bio on to several friends in that area who did support you in the runoff – I have nothing against Paul Thurmond, but it is your time this time around!

  6. Michael Lively says:

Tim, you are the ONLY one who can make this case credibly. Press on!

  14. Craige Bennett says:

    Mr. Scott:

As a conservative citizen of the United States of America I have had an opportunity to read Hannity’s, Newt’s, your’s and others new quasi “contracts with America”, and one attribute, which should be at the top is what I have observed in the Congress and White House since Reagan – Arrogance of Power. The inability of elected officials to listen to their constituents. Their exaggerated sense of importance. The Bushs, Cheny, Pelosi, Reid, and now the worst listener of all President Obama. My Congressman, Dana Rohrbacher, will not return the emails of myself and others – too important. All of these people ignored the will of the people. We want to be listened to, communicated with. No more Iraq’s when we don’t want to go fight. Selfishly passing Congressional bills that only benefit its members. No more overspending (Republicans and Democrats) placing us farther into debt. No more pork, unless it’s on your dinner plate. Look at the entire Obama agenda, he doesn’t have a majority on any issue he’s pushing. Please, once you are elected, remember who put you there and if you ever believe you are better than us common Americans, more special, then immediately resign for the benefit of us all.

    Best of Luck,

    Craige Bennett

Hi Tim, I saw you for the first time as a guest on the Sean Hannity show and I was so impressed. I’m routing for you; God Bless you! If you were running in New Jersey where I live, you would certainly have my vote!!
